About me

Edward Betts

Level Designer

Thank you for checking out my portfolio. Here’s some information about me. I’m a UK based 20 year old with a passion and love for game design. Games were an integral part of my childhood. I grew up surrounded by board and video games, with my parents encouraging my sister and I to not only play, but learn and make games of our own. When playing Zelda – aged around 6 – my Dad was worried that I kept picking up (in game) chickens and throwing them. Mum asked me what I was doing, I wanted to see what they’d do. Dad was amazed when (after quite a long time of chicken chucking) chickens appeared from all corners of the screen and attacked Link. I remember how exciting it was to uncovering a part of the game that had remained hidden.

As I got older the physical marble run/tile based games evolved into digital games. We were encouraged to play games that had interesting narrative arcs, were collaborative in an unusual way (Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons).

I strive in my game development process to create interesting, unique and meaningful levels that will remain with the player long after the games release. My process consists of sketching out my intentions, creating meaningful well presented documentation to communicate my ideas. Collaboration and problem-solving are central to the successful delivery of the projects and my time management and people skills ensure that the team deliver at all stages.

Outside of University and game work, I enjoy producing music and going to the gym. I’m an avid cinema goer and love watching films and spending time with family and friends.
